Gord Burns earned himself a nominaton for PGA of Canada’s Player of the year in 2025. Burns captured 2 National PGA of Canada Championships in 2025, the PGA of Canada Seniors Championship, and the inaugural PGA of Canada Head Teaching Professional Championship. Burns credits his time playing the PGA Tour Champions for his elevated play of late.
2025 saw Burns as a 51 year old looking to make a run to win the PGA of Canada Senior’s Championship held at the beautiful Ridge at Manitou Golf Club. After making his way into the final group with defending Champion Alan Maclean and always dangerous Danny King, the three of them were basically tied with 3 holes to play. With Burns and Maclean both tied at 12 under with 1 hole to play, Burns hit a sensational 4 iron to 15 for eagle at the beautiful par 5 18th to put the pressure on Maclean. Maclean ended up missing the green and settling for a par leaving Burns with a two putt birdie for his 1st PGA of Canada Seniors Championship.
As the year approached the end, there was one more tournament Gord Burns set his sights on, the inaugural PGA of Canada Head Teaching professional Championship played at the beautiful Playa Paraiso Golf Club in Cancun, Mexico. After a great start with rounds of 69-66, Burns found himself at 9 under par, earning himself a 1 shot lead ahead of fellow PGA of Ontario player David Sheman sitting at 8 under with 1 round to go. After starting the round with 2 straight birdies, Burns kept the pedal to the metal and fired a bogey free 6 under 66 to end up winning the event by 9 shots at 15 under ahead of Eddie Maunder who ended up at 6 under. 2025 was a year to remember on the golf course for Burns, who hopes to build off the momentum of 2025 and show up for a successful 2026.
