About Gord Burns and His Support Staff

Gord Burns Swinging

Gord Burns

• Head Teaching Professional at GBurns Golf School
• PGA of Canada Class “A”Certified Instructor
• Canadian Tour member (1999-2003)
• Trackman training and Boditrak Certified

Inspired by his mother and father, Gord Burns first started swinging a golf club at the age of 3. Gord started competing in golf tournaments at the age of 11, and has never looked back. Gord won the GAO Bantam Championship at the age of 12, the GAO Juvenile Championship at the age of 14, and the GAO Junior Championship at the age of 16. He traveled across the US and had much success against his American counterparts earning himself a spot as a Rolex AJGA junior All-American with the likes of Tiger Woods, Justin Leonard, and Stewart Cink in 1990. His record as a junior enabled him to attain a golf scholarship to NCAA division 1 Miami University. There, he studied Sport Organization which involved a variety of courses such as psychology of sport, children and youth in sport, motor skill learning and development, etc. These courses gave Gord a broad range of knowledge and a better understanding of how to properly teach people of varying age and skill levels. Gord was on the traveling team at the university where they won the MAC conference championship in his freshman year. Gord turned professional in 1997 and earned his Canadian Tour Card in 1999. He was a member of this tour for 5 years until 2003. While on tour he was was able to play alongside some of the current PGA tour pros during his time on this tour. Such stars as Jason Bohn, Ken Duke, Aaron Oberholser, Nathan Green, Pat Perez, Ian Leggatt, and Matt Kuchar to name a few. Gord was medallist of the CPGA playing ability test and although he did not win during his time on the Canadian Tour he was able to chalk up many pro-am and mini-tour event victories, as well as earning a spot as low qualifier into the 2002 Bell Canadian Open. Gord continues to compete and earned himself PGA of Ontario ‘Player of the Year’ honours in 2019. He also captured the  2019 PGA of Canada National Club Professional Championship with a tournament record of 21 under par for 3 rounds, also setting a course record of 62 in the opening round.  During his professional career he has been able to learn exponentially from some of the world’s best players and instructors. Gord brings to you many years of playing and teaching experience that will ultimately improve your game regardless of your skill level. Over the past 15 years of his teaching career, Gord has evolved and adapted to the use of modern technologies such as trackman, boditrak, and blast motion as well as a complete understanding of the biomechanics of the golf swing.  He specializes in the development of junior tournament players looking to attain the highest levels of golf competition with an interim goal of achieving a golf scholarship. He teaches players who have won professional golf tournaments as well as those who have never touched a club.

Gord still enjoys competing on a regular basis, and firmly believes in leading by example to inspire the students he coaches!! By competing in professional tournaments first hand and performing  ‘under the gun’, Gord is able to help his competitive students based on real life experiences. Gord continues to push himself to be a better all the while taking on a full time coaching schedule. 2019 saw some of his best performances as a professional. Starting from his most recent victory at the PGA of Canada Club Pro Championship, Gord shot a record setting 21 under for 3 rounds and a 7 shot victory, with a nice course record 62 (-10) in the opening round. He was also named the 2019 PGA of Ontario Player of the year honours, and was able to maintain his #5 rank in the PGA of Canada player rankings. Gord enjoyed 7 other victories, shot 37 of 44 competitive rounds at par or better, and maintained a tournament scoring average of 69.56 for the season.
