After playing in this event for the past 16 years, Gord Burns finally prevailed as the Ontario PGA Match Play Champion. On 8 other occasions Burns had advanced to the final 4 only to have settled for 2 previous runner up finishes. Burns took down the title in very convincing fashion this year besting Michael Resciniti 5and 4 in the final match at the beautiful Magna Golf Club. Burns took down long time friend Eddie Maunder in the semi finals 3 and 2 as the match featured pouring rain and very extreme scoring conditions. With the weather settling down in the afternoon final match, lots of birdies were thrown up on the board with Burns carding 5 birdies through 15 holes to end the match.
